ABOUT JED SCHWARTZ
Jed Schwartz, founder and creative director of JSP, began his career in the early seventies in the design and animation department of WNET/Thirteen in NYC. During his apprenticeship at WNET Jed studied the fundamentals of animation and mastered the technical skills required to operate the Oxberry animation camera stand. Aside from preparing all the graphics for the local nightly news program, Jed also worked as an animator and designer producing on air promos and animated spots and opens for local and national PBS programs. While in NYC, he also freelanced as an Oxberry camera operator and shot spots for Sesame Street, film trailers, and commercials. Needless to say, all this work was produced using old-fashioned film making, cell animation, and camera FX.

After a brief hiatus at Syracuse University to study fine arts over the winter of 1974, Jed moved to New England and established Jed Schwartz Productions and his studio in New Hampshire where he began producing animation for the NOVA Science Series, Infinity Factory, and other Boston-based clients. As computers began to revolutionize the animation industry, Jed embraced the new technology, incorporating the use of motion control, slit scan photography and optical effects into his projects.

During the 1980s JSP was awarded several long term commissions from the Chedd/Angier Production Co. to design, art direct, and produce animation and graphics for several continuing television series. After much research and deliberation, Jed migrated his production from film to Symbolics CGI systems to handle the large volume of production streaming into the studio. Jed was retained as creative director for Chedd/Angier through the late 1980s and divided his time between his home CGI studio in New Hampshire and the studio he assembled for Chedd/Angier, where he established an apprenticeship program and managed a staff of animators.

Jed continued producing animation on the Symbolics platform through several generations of hardware and software upgrades into the early 1990s. He also consulted for the Symbolics education division, delivering on site, custom training to several American and European animation companies.

In the mid 1990s Jed teamed up with Larry Giunta, a young designer who he originally hired as an apprentice at Chedd/Angier. Together they founded the Schwartz/Giunta Production Company. By now their Symbolics computers and software were replaced with SGI unix systems and Sidefx Houdini software. As creative director for S/G, Jed directed the production of a large body of commercial, broadcast, and medical animation. He continued to split his time between his NH studio and the S/G studio in Boston until mid 2003.

In September 2003, after eight years and many successful creative ventures, Jed and Larry decided to part ways. Jed re-established Jed Schwartz Productions in the studio on his small sheep farm in rural East Washington. Jed continues to work with some of the most intelligent and talented producers, directors, scientists and marketers in the industry.
